I had hiked several miles the previous day, but this scene was close to a paved road in Rocky Mountain National Park. Here lichen-encrusted rocks provided contrast to the red and yellow aspen leaves. This scene would be much too shadowed under direct sunlight as soft light from a cloudy day was again necessary to avoid too much contrast in the image. Over the next 45 minutes I managed two exposures during intervals with both calm wind and cloud cover, then the clouds disappeared and my photo op abruptly ended.
